FARMER FOUND DEAD

(By Telegraph—Press Association)

NEW PLYMOUTH, This Day. An elderly farmer was drowned while attempting to rescue from a dam a sheep. His body was recovered subsequently to his clothes being found on the edge of the dam, while the sheep was still swimming, being unable to scramble up a hank fringing the water. Deceased was Wilfred W. Efnslie, aged 60 years, a widower. Emslie was seen by Albert Goodwin, who was informed by deceased that he was going across the farm to kill a sheep. An hour later Goodwin searched for Emslie and saw his clothes lying on the bank. Goodwin stripped and swimming the dam touched Emslie’s submerged body. Goodwin and later a doctor worked in vain to resuscitate him.
