RELIEF RATE OF WAGES
FARMERS’ UNION PROTEST
(By Telegraph—Press Association) . HAMILTON, 9th January. ’ Strong criticism of the relief rate ot wages —14s a day—was voiced at the ■ Waikato Farmers’ Union to-day. The following resolution was carried : “This executive refuses to support the Unemployment Board in finding work for the unemployed so long as the exist- ■ ing relief rates are paid, believing them lo he uneconomic and only aggravating, the general economic position; hut will assist in every way possible where the rates are drastically reduced.” Mr R. H. Fcisst, in describing the relief wages as one of the greatest criminal blunders imposed on the country, claimed that the best thing that could happen would he for them to resist and''not- assist in giving work at 14s. a day.
