ECONOMICS OF SOCIALISM
THE AUSTRALIAN BREAKDOWN ADDRESS BY NEW ZEALAND M.l\ (United Presß Association—By Electrio „ Telegraph—Copyright) LONDON, Bth January. “The Australian breakdown has given a deadly blow to the economics of socialism,” declared Mr A. M. Samuel, M.P. for Thames (New Zealand), in a mid-day address at the Tradesmen’s Club. ITe said: “If Australian wheat and wool cost more to produce than customers can pay, they must remain unsold. Unemployment created by Socialist economics caused the Australian State railways to lose £8,500,000 last year. Australians say we borrowed money from diabolical capitalists to build, run and meet losses on the railways. Now the diabolical capitalists refuse to lend more. There is no reason why Australian Socialists- should not find capital for the railways, but they cannot unless they sell their products, which are too dear.’’
