Mrs Lila Grey Chaplin and Georges Carpentier made representations to the police to-day that they were kidnapped by bandits and robbed of 15,000 dollars worth of valuables and jewels. Both are playing in a local variety theatre, and after a performance were in the lady’s limousine when four”gangsters entered the car and drove off. They stripped her of her jewels and then made Carpentier, Mrs Chaplin and the latter’s chauffeur get out. The bandits thereafter disappeared with the automobile, which, however, they soon abandoned.
