CAR SOMERSAULTS
SEVEN OCCUPANTS INJURED THROWN IN ALL DIRECTIONS (By Telegraph—Press Association) NEW PLYMOUTH, This Day. Seven people were injured when a large motor-car somersaulted three times near Patea while endeavouring to pass a small car. The injured are Alice Hodge, aged 21 years, the daughter of Mr Sam Hodge, an Alton farmer, fractured skull, condition serious. Phyllis Hodge (her sister), aged 15 years, fairly serious condition, a fractured collarbone. Annie Hodge, a third sister, aged 17 years, a gashed leg. ■Guy Hardenberg (25), of Alton, and Henry Apaturie (17) of Palmerston North both received concussion and cuts. Marie Thomson (18), of Raetihi, abrasions. Sam Hodge, the driver, head cut and lacerated hands. Mr Hodge had been trailing a small car which, it is said, refused to give way. While endeavouring to pass, Hodge’s car skidded and somersaulted and landed on its wheels. The occupants were thrown* in all directions. The small car disappeared. DEATH OF MISS HODGE HAWERA, This Day. Sustaining a fractured skull when the car driven by her father somersaulted on the main road near Patea. yesterday afternoon, Miss Saidie Alice Hodge, aged 21, died from her injury in Patea Hospital at 4.15 this morning. The six other occupants of the car who were also injured are progressing satisfactorily.
