The Railway Commissioners in New South Wales announce that the re-intro-duction by the Government of the 44 hour week on the railways will involve an added expenditure of £475,000 per year. The large number working under Federal awards, which prescrihe 48 hours for a working week thus receive pay for four hours unworked. It is anticipated that the deficit on the railway by 30th June will be £4,000,000. , RATIONING IN VICTORIA PREFERABLE TO DISMISSALS MELBOURNE, 7th January. The Victorian Labour Ministry has decided that rationing is preferable to dismissals in the Railway Department. Rationing began to-day with 2000 single men. Later the scheipe will be applied to over 6000 employees.
