DECEMBER WEATHER
A COLD MONTH RAINFALL BELOW AVERAGE (By Telegraph—Press Association) WELLINGTON. This Day. Mr Kid Son, Director of Meteorological Services, in notes on the weather for December, states that the Dominion as a whole experienced a cold month, the December mean temperature at many climatological stations being the lowest since meteorological observations commenced. After the 19th, however, better weather set in and Christmas week was the warmest period experienced so far this summer, almost perfect weather continuing from then to the close of the month. Owing to coldness and low rainfall , the growth of vegetation was again backward and small fruit was slow in ripening. In the hill country, on tlio East Coast district especially, grasses on which stock were grazing made little headway. On the other hand a warm, dry spell towards the close of the month enabled farmers to harvest, hay and crops under favourable conditions. Generally stock have kept in good condition The rainfall was below the average over the whole Dominion except at a few places in the extreme of the South Island.
