COURAGEOUS ACT
BURNING HOUSE ENTERED
(By Telegraph—Press Association) WANGANUI, sth January, lire completely gutted a .five-roomed house, the property of Constable A. Nairn, at Springvale to-night. Mrs Nairn, on discovering the blaze, ran outside and collapsed. One of the three children rushed to Mr Hammond, a neighbour, saying she wanted water, as her mother had fainted. Hammond misinterpreted the message and thought Mrs Nairn was still in the blazing house. He and Mr Thompson burst in the front door and made a search, a courageous action under the circumstances, as the house was then a furnace. Constable Nairn was on duty when the fire broke out.
