THEFT OF MONEY
COMMUNIST SENT TO GAOL (By Telegraph—Press Association) CHRISTCHURCH. This Day. William Rennie, late secretary of the Communist Party in Christchurch, aged 33 years, was sentenced bv Magistrate Lowry to-day to one month’s hard labour for the theft of £2 2s 6d, the property of the unemployed workers’ movement. Evidence showed that Rennie took charge of moneys subscribed for the help of the dependants of other Communists sent to gaol here last month for various offences. Rennie went out in a taxi to pay the sums over and paid for the taxi out of the amount in his charge. He had a long list of prewious convictions.
