A report from La Rochelle states that drastic measures to combat the “disastrous immoral consequences of modern indecent dances,” have been taken by the Prefect of the Department at La Vendee. All dances open to the public will be under police supervision. Nobody under eighteen may attend a public ball. The rules prohibit “noises, profanity, or invective in dance halls.” Each mayor .is empowered to set the hours within which dancing is legal. Special authorisation is necessary for masked balls. The church is co-operating.
