There was a light breeze. The attendance was good. Results: — Russell Handicap, of 200 sovs; six furlongs—2 Portray, 8.2, and 1 Hunting Cali, 8. 1 (dead heat), 1; 3 Arikinui, 9.0 3. Also started: Mandy. Time, 1.12 2-5. Tawaha Welter Handicap, of 150 sovs; seven furlongs —2 Dainty Ways, 8.9, 1; 2 Fitz Quex, 7.13, 2; 1 Arikira, 8.8, 3. Scratched: Ephialtes, Gold Sands, King Broney, Mythology. Won by a head. Time, 1.27. Juvenile Handicap, of 200 sovs; five furlongs—l Golden Wings, 9.8, 1; 4 St. Roger, 8.0, 2 ; 5 Distortion, 7.5, 3. All started. Won by a head each way. Time 1.0 1-5.

Waihenga Handicap, of 200 sovs; seven furlongs—l Straight Course. 7.11, 1; 5 Make Up, 7.7, 2; 4 Chopin, 7.7, 3. Scratched: Royal Game, Arikinui. Won by two lengths, a head. Time, 1.25 2-5. Greytown Handicap, of 175 sovs; six furlongs—2 Rothen, 7.13, 1; 6 Dermod, 7.12, 2; 1 Lady Rene, 9.4, 3. Also started: Rotation, Waterspear, Gold Sand, Mythology, Tapestry, Lady Donald, Millestra. Investments on the totalisator amounted to £17,653, as compared with for the second day last year, making a total for the meeting of. £39,8651 as against £54,083 for both days last year.

SOUTHLAND HANDICAP WON BY SOME TOFF PALERMO HOME FIRST INVERCARGILL, 3rd January. The Southland Racing Club’s Meeting concluded to-day in overcast weather. Results:— Gladstone Hurdles, of 200 sovs; ‘ one mile and three-quarters—2 Gay Fashion, 9.3, 1; 4 Membo, 9.12, 2; 1 Antrim Boy, 11.9, 3. Scratched: Amorist. Won by three lengths. Time, 3.25. Membo was placed first and Gay Fashion second, in consequence of Gay Fashion blocking in the straight. O’Connor, Gay Fashion’s rider, was suspended for one month.
Roslyn Trot, of 205 sovs; two miles. —5 Gold Tinge, ser, 1; 4 Jolly Wave, 24yds bhd, 2; 2 Oinadora, scr, 3. All started. Won by three lengths. Time, 4.52 4-5.
Shorts Handicap, of 250 sovs; six furlongs—2 Palermo, 8.1, 1; 1 Rin-Tin-Tin, 8.4. 2; 3 Full Swing, 7.2, 3. Scratched :• Meadow Lark. Won tw a length. Time, 1.15 2-5.

Final Handicap, of 225 sovs; one mile —1 Charmaine, 8.7, 1; 2 Camisader, 8.3, 2; 7 Red Boa, 8.0, 3. All started. Won by one and a half lengths. Time, 1.46. Totalisator investments amounted to £13,966, as compared with £16,753 10s for the second day last year, making a total for the meeting of £29,273, as against £34,209 for both days last year.
AUSTRALIAN RACING WARWICK FARM STAKES (United Press Association—By Electric Telegraph—Copyright) SYDNEY, 3rd January. At the Warwick Farm races the Farm Stakes resulted: —Bonawe, 7.13 (Simpson),- 1; Valentino, 9.0 (Bartle), 2; Pro Note, 8.11 (Johnstone), 3. Twenty started. -Valentino dead-heated with Bonawe but was placed second on a protest. Time 1.41.
