CHILD DROWNED
IN STREAM AT KOHI RESCUES ON TARANAKI BEACHES (By Telegraph—Press Association! NEW PLYMOUTH, This Day. Ten rescues from drowning were effected by life-savers on Taranaki beaches. A child, aged four years, was drowned at Kohi, near Waverley. Seven of the rescues were effected at Fitzroy beach, New Plymouth, by beach patrols, the swimmers getting into difficulties in the surf. Four men from Okato were caught in the undertow at Oakura. One, C. Wooldridge, is still very exhausted. The child drowned at Kohi, Ulric William Benbrook, was with a party picnicking on the bank of a stream. He was missed, and was later found floating down the stream. Extremely hot weather during the past few days has enticed crowds to the beaches.
