CUSTOMS DUTIES
COLLECTION AT NELSON INCREASE ON LAST YEAR’S TOTAL 1 The total amount of duties collected’ at the Nelson Custom house last year j mounted to £74,485 11s 3d, an increase ' of £IOBO 15s lid as compared with last. ’ year’s figure of £73,404 15s 4d. The amounts of Customs duties collected in December, quarter ended 31st December and in the year 1930 (comparative figures for 1929 in parenthesis) were as follows: £1968 14s 9d (£7563 5s Id), £13,653 12s 2d (£20,758 16s 8d), £50,403 12s 7d (£53,673 2s 2d). BEER DUTY Beer duties collected for last quarter and year respectively were as follows: —£1150 18s lid (£1265 9s 2d), £3246 8s 8d (£3134 Is lid), £11,925 4s 3d (£11,264 11s lid). INCREASE IN TYRE DUTIES Tyre duties showed a marked increase on last year’s figures. In the last quarter of 1930 £275 Is Id was collected as compared with £163 5s for the same period in 1929. For the year £978 9s 3d was collected as compared with £176 17s in 1929. MOTOR SPIRIT In 1930 motor spirit duty amounted to £9545 4s lOd, as compared with £6960 14s in 1929. _ Miscellaneous receipts increased from £1329 10s 3d in 1929 to £1629 0s 4d in 1930.
