UNFOUNDED REPORT OF DEATH (United Press Association—By Electric Telegraph—Copyright) (Received 2nd January, 9.40 a.m.) SYDNEY, This Day. A cable message was received from London announcing the death of Marshal Joffre, but a subsequent message stated that the report was unfounded, and an official bulletin was issued saying that he was resting tranquilly. KING’S DEEP REGRET • (British Official Wireless) RUGBY, 30th December. Lord Tyrell, British Ambassador in Paris, has been asked by the King to follow the progress of Marshal Joffre, and to express the King’s deep regret.
