TATTERSALLS CLUB MEETING

SYDNEY, Ist January
The Now Year’s Day meeting of the Tatitcrsalls Club races was held at Randwick. The attendance was officially estimated at 25,000, compared with 40,000 at the same meeting last year. A number of bookmakers refused to pay liio Government annual tax of £7O pending the likelihood of the 10 per cent, winnings bets lax being modified or repealed. Over 50 bookmakers’ stands were unoccupied. A plain clothes constable seized a telegram at the racecourse telegraph office, alleging that the sender was communicating a bet and the starting price to a bookmaker in the city, and thereby endeavouring to defeat riie winnings bet tax. The incident caused a commotion
The principal results arc:— New Year’s Gift—Sir Chryslophen, 9.0 (Munro) 1; Compodonico, 8.7 (MeLachlan) 2; Panola, 9.12 (Pike) 3. Fourteen started. Jeypore led all the way with Pavilion, Exact/, Stardor, Spearman, and Dalseon his nearest attendants. Voleuso and Spearman tried to overtake Jeypore in the straight but the latter finished too strongly and won by half a length with four lengths between second and third horses. Stardor was iourtn. llien came Dalseon and Pavilion well back. Time, 1.31 jj-. VICTORIAN RACING CLUB MELBOURNE, Ist January. The Victorian Racing Club’s Meeting was hold in ideal weather. Results :-—- New Year Hurdles—Horoscope, 12.1 (Inkson) 1: Cobranveil, 10.7 (Butler) 2; Nasru, 9.7 (Ramngu) 3. Seven started, including Plunderer, which fell and was destroyed. Won by two lengths. lime, 3 39 St ait dish Handicap—Umbeytana, 7.1 (Duncan) 1; Binna. 7.7 (Phillips) 2; Calmatic, 7.5 (Winks) 3. THE DIMMER WINS PERTH CUB
PERTH Ist January. _ At the West Australian Turf Clubs Cup Meeting there was a large attendance. The Perth Cup resulted :—1 lie Dimmer, 8.0 (Cooper) 1; Sirbury, 8.1 (Wright) 2; Knight Commander, (Brady) 3. Thirteen started. The Dimmer took charge three and a halt tuilongs from home and won easily by tom lengths, a neck between Serhurv and Knight Commander. Time, 3-29 _ Pink of Condition secured by eating Yeaston Tablets, which vanquish constipation.—Nees, Chemist, Hardy street.
