ANNUAL MEETING YESTERDAY

The annual meeting of the New Zealand Church Missionary Society was held in the library at the Marsden Church House yesterday, the Bishop of Nelson being in the chair. There were also present members of the executive and ladies committees, the clerical secretary (Archdeacon Dart), the lay secretary (Mr C. A. Goldsmith), and a number of members of the society; while apologies were received from Mrs Sad Her, the Rev. J. A. and Mrs Rogers, Mr T. Usher and MVs J, P. Chikls, who were prevented- from attending by sickness or absence from Nelson.

The 'chairman gave a short address in which he pointed out that this was the .'Mth annual meeting of the society and that members could be looking forward to its jubilee and preparing for it by endeavouring to take an increasing share in the evangelising of the world. He referred to the loss which the society had suffered in the death of several of its particularly Mrs E. J. Hunter Brown. The report and balance sheet for the year ended '3oth June last were then presented and after they had been adopted the election of officers and executive committee for the ensuing year was proceeded with. His Lordship the Bishop of Nelson was unanimously reappointed president and the Bishops of Christchurch, Aotearoa and Waikato were appointed ex officio vice-presidents. There being five nominations for the four clerical members of the- executive, an election was necessary and resulted in the appointment of the Rev. Canon T. J. Smith, the Rev. F. J. Daynes, the Rev. B. M. Taylor and the RewG. H. Sehurr while the following were appointed as lay members: Messrs J. F. Childs, J. R. Wallace, T. Usher, E. G. Wilson, Mrs J. F. Childs, Mrs -J. Corder and Miss Hunter Brown. Mr P. A. Bamford was reappointed auditor. A resolution of thanks to the Board of Missions for its assistance was carried.

Archdeacon Dart then moved a resolution of thanks to God for the unique services rendered to the society by the late Mrs E. J. Hunter Brown. This was seconded by Mr J. F. Childs and carried unanimously, all those present standing. After Archdeacon Dart had expressed the good wishes of the society to Bishop Sadlier and Mrs Sadlier in connection with their forthcoming visit to England for the Lambeth Conference, the proceedings closed with the singing of a hymn and the blessing pronounced bv the chairman.

A pleasant little ceremony took place afterwards when Bishop Sadlier on behalf of an anonymous donor presented the societv with an enlarged photo of the late Mrs E. J. Hunter Brown.'
