The usual senior and junior "Spud Monday" seven-a-sidc llugby louniaments 'were held at Trafalgar Park yesterday. The weather was threatening ami the jit tendance poor. Towards the end the ground became slippery as the result of showers and the ball was tlifllcult to play. Throughout the day the standard of the football was very poor. In the junior competition Nelsons and Rivals reached the linnl. the latter winning, and in the senior SVaimca and Nelson fought out the final gam", Nelson gaining the verdict. The results were as follows: JUNIOR College 10. beat Nelson B. I!. Rivals heat Old Boys. Old Bovs I', beat Pirates by default.. Nelson'.\. 10, beat Wakatu A. 6. Wakatu 11. 5. heal College I. Rivals 3 beat Old Boys B. 0. Nelson A. beat Wakatu B. (Final). Nelson A. and Rivals mel in the Pinal, ft was a dreary game with few attempts at open back play. I'ivals scored first. Westley selling a dummy and racing in from the 25 for a tryAfter the change round- Leahy handled twice in a movement and touched down evening the points. The game was continued overtime and it was not till the second extra, spell was in progress that Puklowski made a good run to put Rivals three points ahead and win the ■ otirna--ment for his side.
SENIOR Waimea 15, beat Wakatu 0. Nelson A heat Ritais by default. Old Bovs beat Pirates bx default. Nolsoii'A. 35, heat Old 'Boys 4. Waimea 24, beat Referees 5 (The Final) Waimea and Nelson A., easily the best two teams ie the tournament were the finalists in. the senior competition. The teams wore as follows:Nelson A: Reed (captain), Stewart. Young, W.' Snow, White, Phillips, and Sexton
Waimea: Watson (captain;, Wells, Sutton, Bird, Boyee, Stewart, and Beach. ■ Boyce saved the situation for Waimea by stopping a Nelson back movement. After several minutes attacking Young ran in for a try for Nelson. After the change round the Nelson.-, combined in an. unstoppable passing rush the ball travelling through about a dozen pairs of hands before Sexton touched down. It was-the best movement of the day. Reed converted, .lust on time Sexton kicked through hard. Peed followed up and went over for n try with Boyce holding on. Thus Nclsoil won bv 11 points to nil.
