THEORY OF EVOLUTION

STATEAIENT BY MINISTER OF EDUCATION . (By Telegraph—Press Association) HAMILTON, This Day. The Minister of Education, the Hon. H. Atmore, replying to a Hamilton protest against the reference to evolution in the new school syllabus,' says the intention is. misunderstood. There is no intention .that the theory of evoliiticn in connection with the ancestry of man shall be taught in the schools. It is quite unlikely that teachers will extract a wrong meaning from the .-eftrence in the syllabus. "The intention c-f the syllabus is that children should be led' by iirst-hand study of Nature to discover some part, however small, of the wonderful plan of creation, gaining thereby increased love and reverence for the Creator."
