COUNTY COUNCIL
MEETING ON MONDAY TEMPORARY ELECTRIC PLANT \ meeting of tho Murchison. County Council was held this week. There were present: Councillors Stewart- (chairman), liadcock, C01e,. -Morel and Newman. Ail arrangement was made for the Electiical Engineer to purchase a light motor truck to ho his own property anc that he be allowed £BS a year for all running costs. Tho Electrical Engineer reported on tl, e purchase of a temporary plant lor lighting the township and other premises up to 300 lights. It was resolved on the motion of Ihe chairman .seconded by Councillor Cole, that tho plant- be proCouncillor Newman stated that Mr A. Flower had asked that tho Council provide timber for him to carry out repairs to the bridge at Lake Rotoroa ll«o matter was referred to tlio 1 üblio Works .Department. _ , , Councillor Newman, referred to tlio fact that tho men on tho Owen Rive>r road were making the) road only six feet clear. This was of no< use and should bo tho full width. , Tho same councillor referred to tno big slip on the Owen River road. Tho deviation would not be a success. Ho also referred to Gilroy s road, which was also being made only 6ft. " Tho chairman suggested waiting a few days until the Minister gave his decision on matters referred to him by tho deputation and, if not satisfactory, ho would refer tho matter to Mr Black, M.P. Councillor Morel referred to a culvert near O’Connor’s, which was silted up. It was considered that at least a 12in. culvert was needed. If the Council could spend £ls on tho Grassy road tho culvert could bo put right and tho accumulated gravel used to metal the road. Councillor Colo said ho had no roquest to make, because there wore no roads loft in his district-
.Councillor Badcock also had no requests to make, lie moved that the Public Works Department be urged to open all roads .to full width to enable) cream to be collected. The motion was seconded and carried. Tlie chairman reported concerning the visit of himself and the Clerk to Wellington to placo tho needs of tho courttry before tho lion. A. E. Ransom, Minister of Public Works. Tho chairman said he would have awaited authority from the Council before going, but Mr Black, M.P., had stressed the urgency of the matter and advised against delay. Tho deputation’s action was confirmed. On the motion of the chairman, seconded by Councillor Newman, it was moved that all in Murchison be required to remove destroyed premises both in the interests of public safety and the credit of the district. *
