AUCKLAND LADY SWIMMER . .... LEAVES (By' Telegraph—Special to "The Hail") v K AUCKLAND, 31st'July. Auckland has lost a champion lady swimmer, for Miss Doris Magee last week married Mr Harold Braiden of Sydney, and they are spending their honeymoon in Australia where they will reside. . When 13 years of age Miss Magee won the 100 yards junior girls New Zealand championship at Timaru m 1923. The following season she lost her title at Wanganui, finishing second to Miss L. Coutts, of Auckland. However, she came into prominence in 1927 by annexing the 100 yards intermediate girls Auckland championship in the New Zealand record time of 68 4-5 secs. She followed up this success by scoring in the Dominion title event in 69 1-5 secs. To Miss Magee goes the honour of being the only swimmer ip Australia or New Zealand to defeat Miss Ena Stockley over 100 yards. She did this when she won the ’Auckland championship in 1928. . Indisposition prevented her from giving of her best in the Dominion championship event decided at Dunedin, won by Miss Stockley. Miss Magee’s last appearance locally was in this season’s Auckland championship in which she was second to Miss Stockley.
