NEW GUINEA MANDATE
REPORT TO COMMISSION FURTHER INFORMATION GIVEN GENEVA, 16th July. At a meeting of the Mandates Commission, the High Commissioner for Australia, Sir Granville Ryrie, furnished supplementary information on New Guinea, dealing with taxation, including head tax, import duties, land alienation, shipping services, segregation of prisoners, and inspection of copra. He pointed out that the burden-of taxation fulls most heavily on Europeans.
