LION TAKES A SWIM

ESCAPE FROM A CIRCUS Creat. excitement was caused at Bulky, Rhineland, by the astonishing sight of a magnificent lion which had escaped from a visiting circus swimming happily about in the -Moselle. Attempts to drive the animal to* land where it could be more conveniently dealt with proved unavailing—the cool waters of the river were far preferable to the dusty atmosphere of the circus. Eventually keepers ringed the lion round with sections of iron fencing, used for the performances of animals in the circus ling, arid secured him with a rope. In a very short time he was in his cage and on his way hack to the circus at the tail of a large-sized elephant.
