A very severe earthquake occurred at 2 a.m. yesterday. •The death took place in the Westport Hospital yesterday of Denis O’Sullivan, telegraph foreman, who came from Wei • • lington after the big earthquake and •surveyed new telegraph routes, and laid , lines where they were brokeft between Westport and Karamea, Lyell, and Inangahua Junction. He never spared himself, working under very trying conditions from a sense of duty. Death was due to bronchitis and a severe attack of influenza. Earthquakes at irregular periods are still being experienced here, many of them being of a jolting nature. ’QUAKES AT TAKAKA ' ’ N - The Chief Postmaster at Nelson (Mr G. W. Hazleton)-has received the following telegram from the postmaster, Takaka“A severe shake was experienced /., 2.57, Sunday morning, followed by others of , lesser severity at 11.30 p.m., and 12.5 and 12.20 this morning.” During the week-end tremors were ' felt in Nelson at 4.45 p.m. on Saturday, 3 a.m. Sunday and 7 o’clock this morning.
