UNUSUAL EXPLOSIONS
THREE REPORTED FROM AUCKLAND (By Telegraph—Press Association) AUCKLAND, This Day. Three cases of unusual are reported. One occurred at the WaihL municipal abattoir. Subsequent to placing some coal in the furnace of the hot water plant the front, portion of a brick chimney was blown out and the upper portion cracked. The opinion is expiessed that the coal contained a plug or more of gelignite, as the explosion was a severe one. The explosion of a benzine iron caused a commotion in the Star and Garter Hotel at Coromandel, where a woman was engaged ironing. The explosion wrecked the grate and dislodged the mantelpiece, and broke a window. Severe bums to the face and hands were sustained by Miss Olive Lee, aged 19 years, through a gas stove explosion. She was lighting the oven when gas, which had escaped through one of the taps, exploded.
