STATE HELP WANTED
FOR MURCHISON DISTRICT DEPUTATION TO MINISTER. (By Telegraph) (From '.'The 'Mail's" Parliamentary Reporter) < WELLINGTON, This Day. A deputation introduced bv Mr G. C. Black (Motueka) waited on* the Minister of Public Works (the Hon. E. A. Hansom) to-day to ask that relief should be given in respect to earthquake damage in the Murehisoh district. Mr Black pointed out that whereas Karamea required £13.400. Murchison county wauled only £12.350 to restore roads. The dairy factory in Murchison on which all the reads converged could not, operate unless the road was opened immediately. An amount of £2OOO would also be required to re-establish the hydro-electric scheme and a erant of £2OOO was necessarv to conserve the interests of the Public Trustee on a loan of £15.200. ,Thc Murchison County Chairman (J* - •Stewart) stated that the pasitimi of the county was hopeless. The county could not restore the earthouake damage, but ir was less than the J 926 flood damage. Free grants were needed to open up all valley roads. A four 'on' clock track was also wanted down the Buller Gorge. It- was necessary that the Midland Py'iilwav should be completed soon as possible, also the Lewis Saddjc Highway.
