FRUIT EXPORTERS' ASSOCIATION MEETING REMITS TOW EXPORT CONFERENCE (From Our Own Correspondent;) A meeting of the Motueka District Fruit Exporters' Association was held in the Jubilee Hall on Monday evening, Mr D. Haining occupying the chair. In connection with the russeting of Delicious apples, the Cawthroii Institute wrote asking for spray schedule. It was resolved that the necessary information be obtained from various parts of the district. Tiie. chairman, in reporting on the meeting' of association executives, held in Nelson on the 28th .Tunc, explained that most of those present had attended with the idea that it was the intention o'f some, to endeavour to set up an organisation apart from the federation to deal with Nelson export. • 'Further, Mr Haining said that it was clearly apparent early in the meeting that such a move would meet With very little support and, in consequence, the subject was lightly passed over. The meeting bad considered mainly the position of the Advisory Board with a view to strengthening it. The returning officer for the fireblight committee election wrote requesting nominations from this association. Mr D. Haining, who was nominated, accepted. On the motion of Messrs Holdaway and Mackay, Mr Haining was also nominated to represent the Motueka district on the Fruit Advisory Board. Messrs H. A. Holdaway and A. E. Lindup reported briefly on the Dominion Conference, dealing more particularly with alterations to the constitution of the Federation, rural credits and Nelson remits. After some discussion it was left to the executive committee to make arrangements regarding apple packing classes. Remits for the order paper for the export conference were prepared as follows:—(1) That the Control Board be requested to circularise all exporters in the Nelson area, for their sanction to a levy of one-farthing per case, the money so obtained to be paid over to the Cawthron Institute for the purpose of fruit research. (Messrs A. Rowling and L. B. Robinson). (2) That, in view of the fact that sliced apples in export cases were the direct cause of (a) extra expense incurred in re-conditioning at Wellington, (b) deterioration of the fruit, (c) loss of weight per package, where fruit showing mould was removed and not replaced, (d) deterioration in general appearance of package through mould stains and re-conditioning, the held officers and inspectors of the Horticultural Division, also packing shed managers and growers generally be urged to impress on all packers the necessity of packing in such a manner as will prevent such damage. (11. A. Holdaway and C. 11. Mackay). (3) That it be compulsory that growers' registered number be stamped or stencilled on the ends of all cases. ((!. Cooper and L R. Robinson). (4) That the. fullest investigations bo made into the discrepancies that occur between actual shipments by growers and out-turn at destination ; also into the methods of claiming for such shortages and the amount per case so claimed for, with particular refer- ! ence to the final statements of shortage pools for season 1928. (E. G. Robinson and G. Cooper). (5) That the grade regulations covering Worcester Permain, be fully considered in view of the prices realised, indicating that extra fancy and fancy 'grades were over mature, whereas good grade was apparently in better condition.
