FOR CLOSE SETTLEMENT STATEMENT BY MINISTER (By T«loertph—Preai AiaodAtlon) WELLINGTON, This Day. The Hon. G. W. Forbes, Minister of Agriculture, in an interview to-day replied to a newspaper statement that no properties, with the exception of one, Had-- been acquired by the Ward Government. To date eleven properties, totalling 11,357 acres, had been acquired by agreement purchase at £214,399, with delivery at specified dates. Obviously the Government desired to offer the properties for selecting and delivery at suitable seasonable periods, and arrangements were being made for ballots to take place some three months before the actual delivery. The. Department had arranged with several vendors to allow building material, etc.,. to be brought into, several areas by the successful applicants soon after each ballot, also for the prosecution of the necessary road formation. Mr Forbes also mentioned that the Land Purchase Board was negotiating for further properties.
