CAR IN THE BAR
EXTRAORDINARY INCIDENT AT AUCKLAND (By Telegraph—Special to "The Mail") AUCKLAND, 23rd July. Swerving twice, first to avoid a boy on a bicycle, and secondly a startled pedestrian, a young lady successfully steered a light touring car through tho swing doors of the Metropolitan Hotel in Queen street this morning, and brought the car's career to a halt among the half-handles, much to the astonishment of the barman and a number of thirsty Aucklanders whose thoughts were far from motoring at the time. Many willing hands were lent to push the car out into the street again, and it was soon on its way down the road. No one was hurt. It was quite a remarkable incident in its way, far the car, with considerable speed on, struck the swing doors in Durham street at almost the right angle, to thrust them open and clear .the sides with a very _ small margin of space. When the visitors on the .premises got over the initial shock they saw a great deal of humour in the situation, and there were many facetious remarks, including reference to the car not being prohibited, and the possibility of the radiator feeling dry. A greatly startled customer with a "half with a dash" up to His lips, is reported to have dropped his mug.
