THE BANK BALL

HELD LAST NIGHT VERY SUCCESSFUL FUNCTION One of the outstanding attractions in Nelson's dancing season—the Combined Banks' Ball—took' place in the Velma Hall last night and those who had been looking forward to the function with pleasant memories of last year's gathering were not disappointed. Special music, a pleasingly'decorated hall, a good floor ai.tl an excellent supper were the elements of a most successful evening. Over 100 couples were present and the many charming dresses worn by the ladies gave the dancing flour a gay and attractive appearance. The music has been a feature of previous Bank Balls and for last night Mr Manuel Hyman and his well-known jazz band were specially brought over from Wellington. Their playing added a great deal to the enjoyment. An effective decoration scheme carried out by the committee and other members of the bank staffs contained several novel ideas. From a bunch of balloons over the centre of the floor coloured ribbons radiated out to the four walls. Hidden amongst the balloons in the centre were electric fans which during one dance scattered confetti over those below. The supper could not have been more attractive nor more daintily set out thanks to the efforts of the ladies' committee who were busily engaged all day yesterday. A most enjoyable evening was spent by all present and dancing was kept up until the early hours this morning. I The chapcrones were: Mesdames W.! Rowe, E. Bonei E. B. Mabin and E. P. Wilde. The committee consisted of Messrs A. G. Burrell, C. N. Thomas, A. Campbell, D. Fowler and W. S. Moorhouse. The ladies' committee were: Mesdames Bone, Campbell, McGregor, and Challies and Miss Henderson. All do-j serve praise for the result of their efforts. The secretary Mr C. C. Chnllies deserves special mention and the treasurer, Mr R. I. McGregor too had a busy time.
