CHRISTCHURCH SHOOTING CASE
NO ARREST YET [•lograph Prwm A«K»oiatloH) CHRISTCHURCH, This Day. In connection with the shooting sensation, police searched the premises where the burglary took place and discovered a well-prepared swag of firearms and ammunition, but the weapon with which Hammond was shot was retained by his assailant. A detective picked up the torch which the man had been using, and from the size of the swag and other circumstantial evidence it would appear that there was more than one man implicated. Apparently the accomplice kept guard and became alarmed when he saw Hammond enter his shop, and a request for petrol was an excuse for scouting round the exit prepared for the man at work inside the building. No arrest has been made so far. The condition of Edward Hammond is unchanged. The doctor will be unable to extract the bullet. An examination of finger prints is being made, and will probably disclose whether the criminal is already known to the police.
