MOTUEKA'AND TAKAKA The following telegrams have been received from the Postmasters, Motueka and Takaka, respectively : "Severe shock at 8.30* p.m. last night and one at 3.45 a.m. this morning. Raining heavily." "Two shocks of exceptional length and severity, considered worst since Sunday, 23rd June, experienced at 8.28£ p.m. last night and 3.45 a.m. this morning. Other shakes of lesser severity experienced at 11.40 a.m., 12.2 p.m., 12.25 p.m., and severe one at 8.36 p.m. yesterday and Bi3o a.m. to-day. Weather overcast and raining. Tho big shakes were felt throughout Takaka and Collingwood districts." MURCHISON The, following from the Postmaster, Murchison, has also been received: "Rivers normal. Weather overcast. Several minor shakes and detonations with /severe ones at 8.28 p.m. and 3.43 a.m." -
SHAKES IN NELSON Earthquake shocks which, exceeded the description of "tremors" were felt in Nelson last night at 8.26 and B.34—both sharp—and another at 9.30. Most people were awakened at 3.43 this morning by another 'quake which lasted for just over a minute, but was not so severe as the earlier ones last night. The announcer at 2YA stated about half-past eight that a noticeable 'quake had just been felt in Wellington. "WILL BE CLEARED UP IN TIME" A Tutaki settler writing to a friend in town says: "We are completely blocked in here and have to walk out for our bread and stuff. The hills having slipped have blocked up the road, and it is utterly impossible to get a car or anything through. The big shake was felt most severely in this valley. There were- trees flying in all directions and boulders as big as any house came sliding down the hillsides. We are so busy cleaning away slides that we don't know which way to turn, but it will all be cleared up in time." WOMFN'S MEETING ON FRIDAY In order to meet Murchison women refugees at present in Nelson, (he women's division of the Fanners' Union has arranged for an afternoon at the Marsdon Hall Libr.u), next Friday, when all Murchison women and children are in'vited. Afternooni tea will be served.
