FOOD OF THE GODS
REGULATION OF GROWTH INVENTOR’S REMARKABLE CLAIM Men like giants, (logs as Hugo as donkeys, rats as big as cats, and liens Unit lav eggs large enough to supply a meal for a whole family! This is the vision of a Leeds inventor and scientist who claims to he on the verge of discovering a “food of the gods” that will produce giants of stature and brain. The inventor is Mr Roger Birtwhistle, a man of private means, who retired many years ago from a public post in Australia in order to devote his entire energies to private research work. After a lifetime of experiments and investigation in quest of a magic elixir that will make men and animals grow more quickly, lie stated recently that ho has reason to hope that his dream is nearing realisation after recent work in conjunction with an American professor. “J have discovered a mixture with which I have made a number of partly successful experiments with rats,” Mr l'irtwhistle stated. “A week ago six rats were injected with the mixture. Two died immediately. The other four lived three days, during which time they increased their sizo by over three inches. I have not yet been able to ascertain the cause of-death, hut I am now engaged in making certain modifications to my mixture which I hope will make it- completely successful. “Later on I hope to conduct experiments with other animals, and, if all goes well, the day may rot be far distant when I shall try my experiment on niy self. To bring about these changes in human beings, however, it is necessary that they shall coincide with definite stages of development.” In all, Mr Birtwhistle said, he had made over 300 different experiments with various kinds of mixtures and combinations of chemicals before lie had any measure of success. "My food of the cods is obtained from vegetable decoctions,” he said. “These I have treated in a special way with certain chemical additions. Ultim’ntelv, I hope to be able to vary the strength, so as to regulate growth at will.” Mr Birtwhistle visualised a dav when there would he several varieties of supergrowth foods at the command of all tvpes of workers. Manual workers will lie fed on the strongest, while brain workers will not weed nearly so much, he said. _
