The office, lie said, should he a position of honour and given to those who had done good work for the society ; and lie was sure Dlrs Talbot would bo accorded the hearty co-operation of tho committee, during her term ■of office. Dr. Green expressed pleasure at seeing representatives from the Riwaka and Tasman branches present. Mrs G. Atkins, in making reference to a meeting held recently at which it was suggested to organise a large function as a means of raising funds, stated that in her opinion a queen carnival would he the best money-raiser . Mrs Talbot said the idea was a good one, but reminded the meeting that the Band had already under consideration a similar function. While most of the members were in favour of a carnival the Tasman representatives did not support the scheme, on tlie score that Tasman would be an unsuitable place to run a queen carnival. After further discussion it was resolved (Dfesdames Atkins and Tutbury) that a meeting of brancli representatives be held next week for tho purpose of giving the matter due consideration. Before retiring Dr. Green wished the society every success in the coming year. A hearty vote of thanks to Dir and Mrs H. Chapman for free use of the Rosemary Rooms brought the meeting to a close. ANNUAL REPORT Following was the report presented : ’‘The year has been, on the whole, a successful one. The cases on our books number 136 babies under two years, and wo have had 87 new cases for the year. Nurse has pant 1432 visits to. homes and mothers and babies have paid 1789 visits to the rooms. This is an increase of 167 on last year of visits paid bv nurse and of 666 on visits paid by mothers to rooms.
Our sub-branches, Riwaka, Takaka, Collin gwood, Orinoco, Tasman and Upper Moutere are visited regularly and in most places the work and the interest are growing./ Nurse Rogers was obliged, owing to ill-health, to send in her resignation in June; the committee accepted it with much regret, and placed on record their thanks and appreciation of her work, which they realised had done much towards establishing this branch. Wo were fortunate in retaining the services of Nurse Hight, who had been relieving for six months; and we would like to tak'e this opportunity of thanking her most warmly for the keen .and symnathetic manner in which she carries on her work, which makes her ready to give help and advice at any time. Our energetic secretary, Miss Morrison; left the district in August, and Mrs Morgan has been acting in her absence. We are sincerely grateful to her and thank her heartily for the most able and conscientious manner, in which she has carried on the work. We are greatly indebted to her for coming to our rescue. We also feel most grateful to Mr Ross for acting as treasurer in Miss Morrison’s absence and giving his ready help and advice at all times. The committee granted Mrs Hudson leave of absence. We miss her enthusiastic interest and will be glad to welcome her back again. We are sorry to lose Miss Gibbs (who has left the district) from the committee. Mrs Hudson, the president and the secretarv attended the conference in Wellington in August. Tt was most helnful and interesting. The committee decided this year to again have a. house to house collection and advertise it well before hand. Wo found this an, excellent idea, as. in many cases neople were ready with their subscription'--. The committee thank all those who resnonded readily, as it considerablv lightens an unpleasant and much dreaded task to have a subscription tendered willingly and pleasantly. We were a good deal disappointed in the result ; the total donations collected onlv amounting to £2l. We hone for better results next year. Wo did, howeverbenefit bv getting the members’ subscriptions in at the same time, and, we are glad to say are £l9 better off in this respect than last vear. We again thank Messrs Newman Bros, for their continued generosity in conveying mjrse to Takaka- free of charge. Mr Wise for garaging the car, Mr and Mrs Chapman, for their many kindnesses to nurse and the committee, the Girl Guides for looking after the garden of our rooms, Mr Buckeridge. our honorary auditor and our advisory board for f.lieir ever readv help and advice, both collectively and individually whenever called upon.' We would also like to thank all those who helped wi'li °i'r annual ball, and who have, contributed in I lie funds during f bo past year. Lastlv. T would thank the committee "lost, warmly for their work and for their continued lovalfv and support; at tte same time T should like to point out to some of the members, that we. have legularlv held our meetings on the first Thursday of the month at the same time and Mace. T know it is not always possible to. attend : but I take the liberty of giving this hint in the interests of the incoming committee. We a "a in anneal to the public for tlieir continued interest and support, without which we cannot, carry on. We always hope for more members and appeal to
those who are not already subscribers, to join the. Society and so help us with an assured income.” Nurse’s Annual Renort: —Nurse Hight furnished the following report: “During the year the work has progressed steadily. The attendance at the office has been much better. I would like to ask all mothers to continue bringing the babies to the office during the. second vear. From 15 months, once a month, and later in their third year eve-,- three months. "The country work continues to grow in numbers and interest. The general health of the babies lias been good. T would like to thank the presidents and secretaries of Motueka and out-stations for their help and consideration, during the year.”
