DEBATE ON MeKENNA DUTIES (Bv Electric Telegraph.—Copyright.) (Reuter's Telegrams.) LONDON, May 7 in the House of Commons in the dehate on the report stage of the MeKenduties, Mr Churchill ridiculed the suggestion that the duties raised the question of protection or tree trade. The duties were practical measures tor raising revenue without injury to industries The budget consisted ot a series of balances. The silk tax paid for the remissions on earned income. 1 lie execution of the-pledges to the dominions in regard to Imperial would cost £1,400,000 or £1,500,000 The McKenna duties this year would just pay for this. Next year they would pay for these remissions and an additional million which the Government was giving to foster Imperial trade with , Britain. Labour amendments were detected and the report stage on the McKenna duties completed. LONDON May 7 The House of Lords read a third lime the Exhibition Bill.
The hill has received the Royal assent.
