TRADE POLICY MODIFIED
IN FAVOUR OF GREAT BRITAIN

The Finance Minister’s decision to modify the trade policy by saving Great Britain most-favoured-nation treatment is regarded as an important- tactical victory for the Opposition. It is understood that the change is clue partly to Labour pressure, hut the general public. associate it with the influence of the Prince of Wales’s visit. No doubt there has been a division in the Cabinet.
The Nationalist organ Burger expresses great dissatisfaction at the Government’s decision, which it says has absolutely destroyed the quid pro quo basis of the fiscal policy, and urges the Government' either to revert to the original proposals or abolish preference altogether.
