ATTEMPTED SUICIDE

THE HOWARD INCIDENT. At the Magistrate's (Court to-day, James Knight appeared) before Mr J. S. Evans, .S.M., to answer a charge of attempted suicide at the Howard on August 'iS'th by jutting his throat. . Accused pleaded guilty. Senior-Sergeant [Barrett stated that accused, who was a single man and a miner, had been on a drinking bout, and on returning to the Howard had! taken with him several bottles of whisky. His mate saw him cut his throat, and eventually overpowered him. Knight was brought in to the Hospital on August 20th. and had 1 been there ever since. He was progressing favourably. Accused said he had been drinking whisky andi was not responsible for his action. Two years ago he had injured ■his head ; and he was not now able to stand drink as he used to. Such a thing would never happen again. The Magistrate warned accused against drinking, and l convicted and discharged him.
