PRESBYTERIAN LADIES' GUILD

j SALE OF WORK AND FLOWER J SHOW. ' In opening the Presbyterian Sale of Work and Flower Show yesterday, Mr T. A. H. Field, M.P., said he was pleased to see such a large attendance, which augured well for a successful ending. Last week —Daffodil Week—-was a week of 'beautiful flowers, but Nelson was a land of flowers and fruit—the modern equivalent of a land flowing with milk and honey; and the magnificent display of flowers that afternoon showed the" truth of the old adage that there were finer fish in the sea than ever came out of it. The splendid displayof work on the stalls was also a striking testimony to the untiring industry and energy of the members of the Ladies' Guild, more especially when they remembered how busy the ladies had been in helping to swell the funds of the different patriotic societies. It had been said by somebody that if there was one thing dearer to a -woman's heart than another, it was a good ibargain. At this sale of work there were bargains to be picked up on every hand. The cup classes in the daffodil section of the Show came in for much admiration. There was keen competition throughout, and the bulb growers were agreed that the quality of the cups was equal to, if not superior to anything yet staged at a Nelson show. Old varieties and beautiful new sorts were seen at their best, and when the decision of the experts is that nothing finer has ever been seen the promoters of the Show may well foe pleased, at having been instrumental in getting together such a magnificent collection of blooms. The championship for the best daffodil in the Show was awarded to a bloom of Home Truth, a monster cup, staged by Mrs Angus. The judges in the decorative section were Mesdames W. Rout, W. V. Rout and Stycbe.

The show will conclude this evening, when, the charge for admission will be sixpence. During the evening the show blooms will be sold, the proceeds going to the Soldiers' Christmas Gifts Fund.
