NATIONAL RESERVE
EXTRAORDINARY GENERAL MEETING. An extraordinary general meeting of the Nelson District National Reserve -was held! at the Temperance Hall last evening, when' there were about, 30 members present- lieutenant-Colonel Chinig oeupied the chair. The chairman explained tihat the meeting was called for the purpose of con- { sdering the question of disbanding the Reserve. The Secretary (Captain C. R. Cooke) read the from the Reserve to Colonel Porter, and 'his repines thereto, in which 'he advised the Reserve to awatit further communications from headauaniters. During a".discussion the want of sympathy with the movements on the part of trie Defence Department was referred to, also the difficulty of obtaining the Dri 11 Hail' when requiredIt was decided, that the Reserve disband. Sergeant-iflajor Wood stated that the Ambulance Corps would continue, and satisfaction was expressed by the meeting at this infermatic-'n. Members of the Shooting Committee, stated that the local Defence Office had given the use of the Drill Hall on Saturday nights for shooting (purposes, and after goinig to the expense of fitb ng up a mimaiture rifle range the Reserve was. told) the Hall would! be required for the cadets. While aipi>reciating the necessity i< r dipLU-Lnig the cadets the Reserve felt that ini war time it would be more advantageous to encourage shootmg by •men who may be required at the front The secretary produced a statement showing a substantial^deficit, and' it was decided that a levy of 2s .per member be made to wipe this off, any surplus from) the levy to go to the National Reserve Band. , -V hearty vote of- thanks was passed to a.M officers of the corps' for .thenwork, to which Colonel Ching suitably replied. . Three cheers were given, for all members of the Reserve serving at the_ front and the meeting concluded' by smigrng the National Anthem..
