THE WRECK OF THE REPUBLIC.
TO THE IDllOfi. Sir.—ln last evening's "Mail" you Mate that Captain Sealby, of tho wrecked liner Republic, was at one time an officer on the lonic. May I add that during several voyages made by the R.M.S. lonic during 1903 and oiiward Captain Inman Sealby was the Corinthic's commander, and those who, like myself, have travelled under his command, ha vine observed our chief officer's from day-to-day character, are not surprised at the British gallantry delayed by Captain Sealby during the Republic's wrecking in the Amerienn waters. This is another evidence of that British fair play, public spirit and good stewardship ever ready to be displayed by the excellent sea officers who navigate their vessels nnder the colours of the Union Jack. We rejoice with our American cousins in the hearty welcome triv-sn to the Corinthic's excommander and his valued officers. I am, etc., J.H. Nelson, 29.1.'09.
