SIR JOSEPH WARD'S ESTIMATES. LOANS TO SETTLERS. [United Pbess Association.] Friday. According to a newspaper interview with the Premier, Sit Joseph Ward Expects a surplus for the year of £142,849. The estimated revenue is £9,100,000, and the balance brought forward_ is £767,849. The expenditure, he estimates, will bo £8,925,000, and £800,000 is to be transferred to the Pubic Works fund, leaving the surplus mentioned. In the Budget ho reckoned that the surplus would bo £74,052. The Premier considers ifliat this good result in the face of concessions in Customs duties, sheep taix, etc., amounting to £425,000. During the last nine months the Advances to Settlers Department has lent £939,015 to settlers, and .£239,310 to workers.
