Applications closed at the Auckland Lands Office on Monday afternoon for ffcase under the optional system of seven sections in the JMangakahia Survey District (North Auckland), these applications totalling in tho aggregate no less thr.n 905. The extraordinary demand which exiet*- for iand of this I class in the North will be evident when it is stated that the number of applicants for one- of the sections 1 (3 of block ix.) reached the surprising total of 276, whilst sections 2 end 4 of the same block have attracted 58 " and 236 respectively. Section 8a of block x. | has 176 competitors, an.l section 9 of the same block 142. Th3 number 276 is by no mean3 a racori ore, a notable instance having occurred of 700 at Totatoka, but it is believed that the former total ranks second so far as Auckland is concerned.
