[United Press Association.] AUCKLAND, Tuesday. Applications closed at the Auckland Crown Lands Office yesterday afternoon for lea-se under the optional system of seven sections! in the Mangakahia survey district (North Auckland), these applications totalling in the aggregate no less than 905. The cxtraordinarv demand whieh exists for lands of this' class in the North will be evident when it is stated that the number of applicants for one of the sections (o of block ix.) reached the surprising total of 276, whilst sections 2 and 4, ono of tho same block, have attracted '■ 68 and 236 applicants respectively. Section 8a of block x has 176 competitors, and section 9 of the same block 142. The number 276 is hy no means a record one, the notable instance hav- '■ ing occurred of 7CO at Tokatoka, but it is believed that the former total ranks 6eeond so far as Auckland is concerned.
