GREAT FIRE AT REEFTON.

Reeftox, Wednesday. A great conflagration commenced after two o'clock this morning, at Finlay's Taakery, when the following properties were des-' troyed :— Michael Dunn's furniture, warehouse and workshop, Frank Sampson's shop and corn store, Finlay's shop and bakery, Shepherd's old butcher shop, an unoccupied house owned by Dawson, Dawson's Hall, Dawson'a large two storey Hotel, Corbitt's bakery and shop, Dark's Hotel, and Colliug's bootmakor shop and -workroom. The damages are about £15.000, and rery little was insured. Fears are entertained of a lodger at Dawson's, named Peter Alstad, having been burned. A search is now being made m. , Later - Tno charred remains of Alstad have been found in the debris. Tauranoa, Wednesday. The candidates nominated to day, were George Vesey Stewart, G. B. Morris, William Kelly, and H. T. Rowe. The show of hands was in faror of Mr Stewart. Timaru, Wednesday, Messrs It. Turnbull and J. T. Partridge were nominated for the Timaru seat to-day. The show of hands was in favor of Mr Turnbull. Gisborne, Wednesday. Messrs McDonald, Locke, Gaunson, and Porter were nominated ?o-day. Westpokt, Wednesday. Messrs Eugane J. O'Connor and John Muoro were nominated to-day. The show of hands was in faTor of the former. RRE2TON 1 , Wednesday. For the Irangabua district Messrs T. S. Weston, R. H. Reeves, and Wm. Tbe Industrial Association last night passed a resolution condemning tbe pamphlet issued by the committee in opposition to Messrs Joubert and Twopenny's proposed loternational Exhibition, they also requested the committee to use their best efforts to secure a good display of New Zealand goods. The Working Men's Clnb have decided to purchase a site for a new Club building at a cost of £2900.
