The nomination of candidstss for ths electoral district of the City of Nelson takes place at ths Provincial Hall at coon tomorrow ; for the Waimta at Richmond, atd for Motneka at Motaeka at Doon on Wednesday. I A memorial having been presented to the Government by several residents in 2felscn j complaining of such a notice aB that wbicb appeared in the Gazette relative to tbe silting up of the bar beiDg published on intufficieti authority, and asking that some professional man might be engaged to take the soundings, a telegram was received to-day stuting that the requeit would be accedtd to, and that arrangemehtg wonld be made for a thorough examination cf tbe bar. Ox Friday afternoon two lads named Ficldes and Hurfit were, by their presence of mind, courage, and ability to swim, the means of saving a child from drowning. It appears that the child waß playing- on the Colliugwood street bridge, and fell through into the deep water below, but luckily the accident was witm i;ed by the two lads above named, and they at once swam to the spot and rescued the child. The sale of wcrk in aid of the All Saints' building fund was opened this afternoon at tbe Masonic Hall, and will remain open this evening and to-morrow. In addition to the useful and ornamental articles offered for sale, the phonograph, the first, we believe, that has been seen in Nelson, forms a great attraction. Worda spoken or tunes played into this wonderful instrument are preserved, and produced at sotae f oture time with marvellous distinctness, to the astonishment of all who hear them. The rurning of the Lady Barkly has been so arranged that electors of ths Motueka district resid nt in Nelson will be able to go over and record their votes on the 9th December. The anniversary of the Wakefield Lodge, 1.0. G.T., will be celebrated on Wednesday by a picnic, tea, and open meuiiiff, the former to be held in Mr Baigent's paddock near the railway station. Mr Harsthousß addrersad meeting! at tha Tadmor and Sherry last week, and received unanimona votts of confidence at both places. Best and Bachelder's Company of Christy Minstrels left Wellington for Blr nheim last night. They will play there this week, and arrive in Nelson on Eriday morning, and give their opening performance the lame evening. A meeting of the Nava! Brigade will be held at the Volunteer Committee Room this evening at half-past «even. Attention is directed to an alteration in Mr liobeit Aitken's advertisement, which appears on the third page.
