Niw Pltmooth, Tnesday. The Court resumed at 10 30 a.m. to-day and T« Whiti was informed that he could addrsas the Conrt. He said : "It is very little T hare to aay. The land: it was flaished some time with the King and the Governor. It was said that the whole of th« land belonged to the Government. We (the natives) hare been straying on the land of the GoTernment. We hare been strayincr on the land ever since the war was over. We have been cultivating the land. We have not put in food (o cause a quarrel, but we have put in food for subsistence. Up to the present time it was not my wish that evil should come to either of the tribes for the races); my wish is for the whole of us to live happy on the land. I have never wished to do evil or kill any one up to the prsfsent time. My wish ia for the whole of us to live happy on the land, that is my wish. This is the way I addressed the Maori people. That is all I have to say." The statement was taken down in Maori and read over to Te Whiti and he stated it was correct. Mr Standish declined to address the Court. His Worship then addressed Te Whiti in the torma reported yesterday. The Court then proceeded with Tohu's case . W. Carrington said : " I have known Tohu for a eood many years but more particularly Bioce Te Wbiti has commenced to hold his meetings at Parihaka. Tohu has resided at ranaaua for several years aDd he belongs te several hapus of the Taranaki tribes. I believe ihat Tobu has almost as much influence with the natives as Te Whiti. I Tu B ,P r t sent afc lhe meeting at Parihaka on the 16th October. Tohu spoke at the meet-

ing saying, " There is nothing strange to talk of to-day. Death (or distress) alone for both races. Listen to me. The survivors and the prisoners' quarrel alone is the talk to-day. Be strong all of you, be brave, and do not be swallowed up. The wish of the pskfcha is to swallow us up because we are few. We shall cot ba swallowed up. You are not striving for a small piece of l'atd but you are striving for all the land. Those who wish to fight come bere. All 1 have to say is quarrel, strike (< r kill)." The witness also repeated a number of expressions previously stated by Mr Hursthouse. Tohu decliued to ask the. witness any questions, saving his case was the same as Te Whiti's, aftd the statement made by Te Whiti would also apply to him. Charles Messenger deposed i "I have known the prisoner Tohu for the last eight or nine years, and he has resided at Paribaka during that time. About eighty or a hundred Datives resided at Fanhaka eight or nine jeara ago, and in September last there were 2000 natives residing there. This in crease was rot due to the natuigl increase of the population, but to the members of other tribes coming to live afc Parihoka." The witacs? then gave evidence corroborative of thai; given by the previous witnesses relative to the expressions used by Tohu in his speech at Parihaka on the 17th September. Tohu asked the witness, Were you at the meeting in the evening of the 17th September. Witness : No. Tohu : Do you perfectly understand what land I alluded to ia my speech ? Witness : I understood it was the confiscated land. This closed the case for the prosecution. Tba prisoner did not make any statement.
