He bas experienced severe attacks of vomiting and is now unable to take food through his mouth. Later. The latest bulletin regarding President Garfield, reports that his medical attendants have but faint hopes of his recovery from the relapse which recently set in. Calcotta, August 22. Intelligence is to hand from Candahar announcing that Ayqub Khan has issued a proclamation to the people declaring himself Ameer of Afghanistan. His advance against Abdul Rahman is reported to be still further delayed, owing to want of money with which to pay his troops, and provide the necesiary supplies.
