Part of th» Sou'- Western Corner of this ground was worked by the " Perseverance," and,, to a very small extent j also the "Decimal" Company, from which (by statements of these Companies) it is shown that £12,000 worth of Gold was procured from a very small piece of ground, the " Decimal Com' pany '' alone giving £2000 from a space of 15 to 20f t., vide memo from the lat9 Mr Buck-; eridge, the Legal Manager of the" Decimal! Company," to Mr Johnston. Mr Buckeridge' further states -that his Company were unable to vork their ground owing to great jealousies between the tiro Companies, and the high charges imposed upon them by the •♦Perseverance Company for the use of the .water and the right to work from the "Perseverance" ground. Mr Buckeridge concludes his memo by saying, " but owing to the great expense which it appeared would be necessary, and to the Company's Capital being exhausted, the claim was ultimately abandoned, although the Shareholders and -others - believe that there is a large amount of Gold on their own and the • Perseverance ' claims." The "Perseverance Company " worked their ground from an incline shaft, and haying inadequate pumping apparatus, were prevented from continuing work, a report of Mr J. C. The Directors of " Johnston's United Company " have had an exhaustive survey inade and numerous levels. taken by Mr Rpchfort, C.
