INTERPROVINCIAL.
Wellington, Friday. A collision occurred at the Heads last night between Captain Williams' barque Australind and the brig Neptune which were beating up the passage. Tbe Australind was on the port tack and the Neptune on the starboard, and on nearing one another the wind baffled them. Bota vessels went ia stays bat there was not sufficient time to avoid a collision, and the;bow of the Neptuna struck tha bow of the Australiad and tha latter bad part of her head gear and stem carried away. The whole of the head gear, four or five stanchions, and the bow of the Neptune were carried away, no other damage being done. The Captain of the Australind states that the collision was purely accidental and would have been averted had the wind not baffled. Auckland, Friday. The new steamer MacGregor was launched to-day for the Waitara and West Coast trade under the auspices of the Northern Steam Shipping Company. The steamer is capable of carrying 80 passengers. Duval who was remanded from Wellington for obtaining money by false pretences from Elison, was sentenced to twelve months imprisonment. Christchubch, Friday, At a meeting last night it waa resolved to combine cricket, tennis, bowls, and other kindred sports under the title of the Lancaster Park Club. On Tuesday last Doctors Prins and Ovenden successfully removed the jawbone of a man suffering from cancer. At tbe annual meeting of the Bible Society last night, it was reported that 2364 copies of the Scriptures had been sent out from the central office dnriDg the year, being 1264 more than the previous year, and that £500 had been remitted to the Parent Society. The editor of a weekly society paper published here was assaulted in the lobby of the Theatre last night by a man who considered himself aggrieved by something which appeared in the paper.
