Wellington, Tuesday.
Fisher's coal and wood sheds (formerly Fisher and Crooks) were destroyed by fire ot 9.30 last night. The fire had a good hold when discovered, and, as a strong wind wa9 blowing, the buildings were soon levelled to the ground. The engines, two horses, two carts, and a large quantity of fuel were also destroyed. The sawmill adj fining, and several cottages in the neighborhood had a narrow escape. The buildicg was insured for £200 in the Union cfßee.
Dunedin, Tuesday.
The Tararua, as she now liea on the Otara reef, was sold yeaterday. There . was little or no bidding, and the wreck, together with all gear and fittings belonging: to the vessel, subject to the right of the Owner or owner* of cargo to labor for the recovery of cargo, or any portion thereof, was knocked down to Mr James Mills of the Union Company for £20. One boat, lying on the beach near the wreck, Was sold to Messrs Niuimo and Blair for £7 10s., and another at Port Chalmers to Mr Mills for £15. It was stated at the sale of the Tararua that the Government intended to send down divers to recover the old silver in the bold of tha vesael.
The wreck inquiry was resumed this forenoon. Mr Denniston represents the Customs and Mr Allan Holmes the tjnion Company. The first mate Is still under examination.
Christopher Fleming, a miner who was hurt at Naseby yesterday, died this morning.
Wysdham, Tuesday.
On Sunday eleven bodies were recorered on the Waipopa beach> a short distance south of where the Tararua struck. Amonyst them was the body of the captain, which was identified by his brother ; that of Mr Crawford was identified by the papers found on the body, and that of Robert Brown by a ring with apiece of gold quarfrf in the centre. The body of one female, of a Chinaman, and the remainder Europeans, males, were all unidentified. Yesterday, fourteen bodies were recovered, amongst them Dr. Camphell's eldest son, identified by his uncle. Two females, one a young girl, are not identified. The remainder of the bodies (males) now coming ashore arc awfully mutilated.

Very liltle evidence of any mouiont was eliefced during the bearing of the murder case at the RM. Court. After the Magistrate bnd cautioned the prisoner in the usual way McGahey said he had nothing to say except that he was innocent, and he would roßerve liis defence. He was then committed to take bis tr ill at the next criminal sessions at Hokilika.

Mr Bowman's report for the past week in as follows: — The United Alpine Company crushed 160 tons quartz for 2520zs of amalgam from the top plates. The monthly clearing up gave a yield of 4450z*, but on accouut of the expense of the erection of additional machinery and payment of £340 properly tax, the Directors did not deem it advisable to pay a dividend. Coarser and richar gold than any yet found in the mine was struck in the No. 5 level on Thursday. — The Golden Fleece (extended) crushed 166 tons for 128ozs from the top plates. — The Welcome Company's returns for five days crushing was 5850za amalgam from 90 tons of. quartz — The Nil Deaperandum Company crushed 84 toD9 of quartz for lO3oza from the top plates.
New Plymouth, Tuesday. In the Supreme Court, Wilkinson, charged with embezzling moneys belonging to the Government at Hawera, was again arraigned on a second charge, and the trial lasted the whole day. At about 9 o'clock last evening the jury retired, and after 20 minutes' consideration returned with a verdict of guilty, but recommended the prisoner to mercy on the ground that the Government were principally to blame for appointing a man like the prisoner, who appeared to have no knowledge of accounts, with a small salary as Receiver of Revenue, when such a large amount as over £2(5,000 bad to pass through his hands Judge Richmond sentenced the prisoner to five years' penal servitude.
Auckland, Tuesday,
A telegram from Archbishop Steins, tbs Roman Catholic Bishop of Auckland, who left for Europe via Sydney in ill health, reports that he is so much worse that he remains in Sydney, being unable to proceed on his journey.
