CORRESPONDENCE.

To the Editor of the " Evening Mail." Siu,— l feel compelled to reply to a letter which appeared in your columns on Saturday eveniog signed " Register Keeper." For his sake I am glad I do not know " Register Keeper's" name, as judging from his re marks, after reading the telegram of which he complains, I imagine the cap fits him, and that he includes himself amongst the "some" register keepers to whom I alluded. " Register Keeper " evidently has a high opinion of his companions of which they must be proud, and certainly some are well up to their work, but as regards the others — well, I can only regret that he includes himself amongst them. "Registor Keeper" concludes by' stating that the telegram I sent was false, but I will ask him first, what object I could possibly have had in sending a false report, and secondly, why it should have been rendered necessary by the authorities to initiate a system of fines in the middle of the firing if those whom they were to affect were already doing their work satisfactorily ? It is possible that "Register Keeper" has an older headthan mine on his shoulders, but as years do not. always bring wisdom perhaps he will not be above accepting advice from » junior. If so, I would recommend him to exercise more care for the future before cbmmitlihg himself to rash assertions, and further I would suggest that !jt would have displayed bptter judgment on his part had he; refrained from applying. for or accepting a billet, the work of which be is quite incapable of carrying olit.— l am, &c., ; • ; Yoob Repoetkk.
